The NW Cup kicks off the 2011 race season bigger and badder than ever! We are proud to add a new venue to our series at Skibowl, Mt. Hood for 2 of the 5 rounds.

  • So I'm wanting to do a few races this year; I was thinking the race in May and the race in August and I'm wondering about the categories. I've never raced DH before, just a few XC races about 10 years ago so I'm thinking I should probably enter as a Cat 3. If I enter the race in May as a Cat 3 will I be able to enter the race in August as a Cat 2?
  • Just signed up for Friday - Sat. practice + race day.

Got pressured to race Cat 1....or else everyone's gonna think I'm sandbaggin'. Great, now I get to race against Earnheart, R.D. and Patterson and get crushed.

Isn't the whole goal of racing cat 1 so that you don't have to train for this shit?

  • I'm still trying to figure out which category I want to sign up for. What are the differences between the Cat 2 and Cat 3 course? I'm not a beginner at DH, I've been doing it for about 4 years now, but I am a beginner when it comes to racing. Any advice would be appreciated.
  • Not trying to bag on anyone, but Cat 3 is very beginner. If you are a competent rider (i.e. decent bike handling skills and fitness), but haven't done much racing, go with Cat 2. You'll find that the folks in that group are good bike handlers, but don't take it as seriously regarding training, etc. The main reason (for me) to go up to Cat 1 is you get to race the better/harder course.

  • Thanks for the advice EB, sounds like cat 2 will be a good starting point for me.
  • One of my rehab goals is to be back riding my bike and race in August at dry hill. Lots of squats at the gym. Stoked.
  • Roll call!

Who's heading over for the Pro GRT?

    EB
  • I'm in.

    AC
  • kakaw!
  • I'm out, stuck in Moses Lake working.
  • wow you are way out in the middle of nowhere Bobby
  • A few results that I can remember:
    Pro:
Team Giant sweeps. Danny Hart, Needles, and Riffle 1,2,3. Then Richie Rude in 4th, Bryn was 5th.

Women: Kintner killed it for the gals.

    Cat 1: Earnheart slayed 30-39 with a 3:10.07, Today's birthday boy, Jason Sams, took 3rd behind 2 Cali boys in 19-29 with a 3:07.

Pitton was on the podium in Vet Pro with a 4th or 5th (can't remember which spot)

Jess took 3rd in Cat 1 women open.

Emily Smith was on podium for Cat 2 women.
  • Correction, Emily Smith was on the podium for Cat 1 women in 4th!

Newcomer to Bellingham Michelle Benson killed it in the Cat 2 women taking the gold with lots of other Bellingham women (specifically team HoneyBadgerDon'tCare) within the stacked category of 23 women! For those of you who aren't familiar with racing... that is a LOT of women in one category!

    Definitely a fun weekend overall!
